Sculpture unveiled and more

Last Friday, the sculpture at Friendship Plaza was unveiled and the Heartland Artland blog got the photo.

I wanted to give a shoutout to the folks at the Interfaith Center and the Fuller Home Dome group --both have fundraising events this weekend. Most likely, by the time you read this, you either knew about --and attended these events -- or you didn't. But this blog is not calendar of events (here are several of those in the area)-- but think of this blog as a colander of davents instead.

The next davent to strain through the colander is the 4th annual Bike 2 Work Day, May 12, with trophies going to the individual who rides farthest, and to the business that has the most riders. Music by 'Star Child' Darby McGrann and lunch provided by Mayor Brad Cole, prepared by Longbranch and other restaurants perhaps. Since I am organizing this event, I'm responsible for the tee-shirt, which has a quote from Albert Einstein who said "I thought of that while riding a bicycle" -- referring to the theory of relativity -- a good slogan for the back of the shirt. Hopefully, some local businesses will go along for the ride.

Another davent is the launching of the Art Lovers Trading Company Ebay store. Not many items listed yet, but it's a start, and artists or musicians with a creation to sell should contact Sue Mills for the hows and how muches. (I notice another local art e-store has sprung up -- an offshoot of Carbondale Now.)

Another davent is the launching of the On The Square menus page -- still in development, but you get the idea. By the end of the month, all of the restaurant menus will be online. Not high end, but definitely functional.

If you want high-end, the word on the street is that Carbondale's premiere graphics/marketing company will be moving into the soon-to-be vacated space by the Neighborhood Coop -- or into the corner space where "New Chillan's Coffee House" has flown the coop -- or both.

Taking a week off from this blog, to talk a walk On The Square and probe the corridors of Hickory Lodge Park.

See you next weekend.
