Two more excerpts from the City Council meeting for you: Vince Kelly's sensible declaration to the City Council about the Park District's nefarious plan to subdivide and sell Hickory Lodge property without a voter referendum; and Michael Heck speaking not as the Park District President, but as a citizen with an eye on the city's budget. (No wonder the Park District is knee deep in a sand trap). Councilman Joel Fritzler had the best idea of the evening: hire local bands instead of out of town bands. If the organizations that sponsor the Sunset Concerts follow through, this would be good news for Carbondale bands like Ivas John Band, Majnun, Four on the Floor, St. Stephen's Blues, Loose Gravel, Slappin' Henry Blue, and others based in Carbondale and surrounding towns.
A tip for Councilman Fritzler, sit closer to hear the applause.

Don't forget the Brown Bag concerts. Those are all local bands.
Yes, the Brown Bag concerts have local bands, but the concerts occur for an hour on Weds. afternoon at Town Sq. -- attracting a much smaller crowd than the Sunset Concerts -- and not paying as well either.
