At half-time of the SIU vs. Creighton game on WSIU-TV 8, the station ran Chancellor Walter Wendler's persuasive info-mercial about Saluki Way (also available online). The positive impact of the new signage around the campus was mentioned by Harold Bardo: the value to community pride is inestimable -- like a winning athletic tradition . . . which the Salukis continued today, defeating the Bluejays 74-67 in Omaha, led by 20 points by Centralia native Matt Shaw. Carbondale's Justin Dentmon has assumed an important role for the University of Washington Huskies, starting at point guard and seeing major minutes in his team's 67-64 victory over UCLA. (On Channel 3 right after the SIUC game). Here's Dentmon on the free throw line for his team's final possession, sporting a goatee, like his coach Lorenzo Romar (former NBA player and St. Louis University coach), who recruited him.
