Last week's "2nd Day of Issue" Party for the R. Buckminster Fuller memorial stamp was big success, according to
Cornelius "Corny" Crane of the
Dome Home group and
Dan Finnegan of the PO Veteran Fullerite
Bill Perk was also on hand,

along with
Tiffany Gooden, who designed the stamp
cachet (special envelope) for the occasion, and
Janet Reeves
Since the event was so successful, someeone suggested that the group hold a similar open house event regularly (one Sunday afternoon per month, perhaps, or seasonally) to keep the project in the public eye and help raise money for the restoration, which Crane estimates will cost no less than $350,000 -- which seems pretty steep for a little dome, but hey . . .

Corny agrees with this blog that the City of Carbondale should develop its "dome identity" -- not only the geodesic dome -- which hearkens back to the glory days of the Fuller's years here -- but also to the Arena dome, home of a great basketball tradition. A name like "City of the Dome" should be adopted by the City, if
another city hasn't already done so. Or "Home of the Dome," if that domain is still available (it
was). What else is Carbondale currently known for? As the "Once had a 'Strip', but is now a research University town"? Not very catchy. Carbondale, Illinois, "the Home of the Dome" is better. (It may be time for another lunch with
Cap Miller.)
