The Man who Cried 'Credible Threat'
When this story was first posted by AP, it had the headline Ridge Warns of 'Credible' al-Qaida Plot, as well as the use of the term "credible" -- which prompted this blog's sarcasm toward Mr. Ridge and his color scheme (as well as Mr. Ashcroft's recent bluffs) -- with a twist on an old knock-knock joke: "knock knock, who's there? . . . banana . . . banana who?
knock knock, who's there? . . . banana . . . banana who?
knock knock, who's there? . . . banana . . . banana who?
knock, knock, who's there? . . orange . . . orange who?
. . . orange you glad i stopped saying banana?"
How about " . . .raisin . . . raisin who?
. . . Raisin the standard of credibility at Homeland Security."
Perhaps the editor changed the headline and removed the word "credible" from the story, because they're no longer there. . . . Do Ridge's advisers at Homeland Security really believe that announcements like his make Americans any safer? Or that his pronouncements have credibility?

Last time I checked, homeland security was at least supposed to be a national thing, not a political one. Yet, we have people on the Democratic side politicizing this as well.
However, if you're hoping for a terrorist strike to get rid of Bush (not you Dave), shame on you. Unfortunately, there's more and more people on the Left that are doing this every day. If you want to bring forth change at the electoral box, great. That's your right. However, to hope for terrorism to do it is despicable and shows that some don't have a lot of faith in the choices that the American people might make.
Who said anything about hoping for an act of terrorism? Although a terrorist strike would probably help the incumbent, I don't think anything will happen before the election, as Ridge warns. It's incredible to me that Ridge and Ashcroft think "chatter" picked up on web sites chatrooms is "credible." I mean, they could be being deceived by the enemy.
So let me put it back on you . . . Is not *announcing* a threat for political advantage (as Ridge has done) not in the same category as hoping for an actual attack?
When I first read that headline, I read it as saying Ridge was looking for "credible pot". And I thought to myself, "he should hang out with some of the cats at the outdoor concerts. I'm sure they could score him some credible pot." Then I realized you were talking about a credible PLOT. And the joke didn't seem so funny.
"Threat" is a better word than "plot" in this context, as the headline now reflects.

I wasn't condemning you, Dave, but there are some I've seen that have felt that way.
