Eurma C. Hayes Childcare Center report

As predicted (link) in this blog, after months of meeting and deliberation, the special panel to recommend a fate for the Eurma C. Hayes Child Care Center, has submitted its report to the Mayor, and it's Available in Adobe Acrobat format on the City's website.

Key recommendation: The City of Carbondale should foster, facilitate and support high quality, affordable and accessible early childhood programs.

But it's also recommending that a private child care provider run the facility instead of paying Donna Haynes and 22 other city employees in a budget-cutting move recommended by City Manager "Sketch" Doherty. Donna, who has been director for 30 years, is philosophical about the impending change reports Nicole Sack in The Southerm.

The matter will be taken up by City Council Tuesday night.
