V for Varsity: the plot thickens

A mysterious Mr. X, a successful businessman, described by a long-time associate as the most honest man he has ever known, has expressed interest in buying the Varsity Theater for the purpose of serving the arts in Carbondale.

According to Prof. Rick Williams, director of the SIU Honors Program, Rick's "sound-byte" in one of the local papers caught the benefactor's eye and imagination and he contacted Williams to request his aid in getting in touch with Kerasotes Theaters. So Rick got in touch with Mayor Brad Cole (the chief liason between the city and the theater chain), who arranged a meeting. Mr. X and Mr. K and company are scheduled to talk next week. There's time to run out to buy some popcorn--or a "Save the VarsiTee" shirt--before the show starts.
