The Mother of all Mothers' Days

That's Julia Ward Howe, social reformer and poet, who made the first suggestion for a Mother's Day in the United States. In 1872, she suggested it be on June 2 and that it be a day dedicated to peace. She sponsored Mother's Day meetings in Boston for several years, and people in other towns began to do the same.
