Low flyer

Nelson from The Simpsons
It seems that a different cartoon character surrogate may have been responsible for the anti-Flanagan flyer that went out before last week's election. At a meeting yesterday of a certain civic club (which shall be nameless) at a local all-you-can restaurant (which shall be nameless) one of the members (who shall be nameless, but doesn't look or sound at all like the drooling alien from The Simpsons) took credit for the bogus "Maggie for Mayor" flyer distributed around town the day before last week's election, and probably cost the liberal-minded Councilwoman a few votes. His name wasn't "Nelson," either. Haa haa.

You can recount on it

It's official the Maggie for Mayor Campaign Committee will file for a recount of the following precincts in last Tuesday's vote:

The Church of Christ on West Sycamore, where Flanagan had 81 votes and Cole 131; Grace United Methodist Church on Tower Road, Flanagan 68 votes, Cole 146; Lakeland Baptist Church on Giant City Road, Cole, 49-37; Grinnell Hall at SIU, for Cole 93-53; Lentz Hall, where Cole won 63-38; and Cole's home precinct, which voted at the Senior Citizen High Rise on Old West Main, where Brad won 110-65.

Magnanimous in defeat, even if she loses a recount of her narrow loss to Brad Cole for Mayor, the positive-thinking Flanagan promises to work with him and the City Council to bring about a better Carbondale.
